Rising Tide School’s Curriculum


Rising Tide’s curriculum is deeply demanding and extremely

satisfying for students.  When they enter the school, they are

charged with uncovering and pursuing their unique interests

in their own way and on their own time.  They must initiate

all the learning opportunities needed to master their chosen

skills, and are completely free to do this as they choose. 

Conversation and deep play are innately human ways of

learning and many children will spend their time immersed in

talk and play; classes, self-study and apprenticeship are also options.  Adults at Rising Tide School act in a supportive role but do not make any educational decisions for students.


Students are eligible for graduation when they can prove to the school community that they are ready and able to make their way in the larger world as responsible and contributing adults.  If they have successfully used the opportunity the school offers, they will be powerful young people ready to self-create a meaningful, successful, and joyful adult life.
